Cheap Shot

By Bobby Lopez

A recent posting on another website is the perfect example of the need for a place where we can speak our minds.

Someone is attempting to smear Lieutenant Jose Salcido just in time for his 2010 campaign for Sheriff to get underway. Lt. Salcido has not yet committed to running, but a deputy named Joe Charvez has stepped into the race to throw around baseless accusations about Salcido.

As I write this, I hold in my hand a decision by The Honorable James Emerson stating that Lt. Salcido committed no civil wrongdoing. The fact is that no criminal action has ever been taken because the investigation was laughable and filled with bias.

They really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find Mr. Charvez, who has made the same accusations over the years with the obvious belief that if you repeat something enough people will believe it.

Who is Jose Salcido? First and foremost, he is an extremely religious and devoted family man who has worked and volunteered in the community for many years. He has worked for charities like Sacred Heart and been a major fundraiser in the community. The Hispanic community has acknowledged him for his years of tireless work as a citizen and a law enforcement leader. The Sheriff’s Department command staff have done nothing but place road blocks in his way as he reaches out to the community.

Lt. Salcido is currently President of the Central Coast Chapter of PORAC (Peace Officer Research Association of California). He sits on the PORAC Executive Committee and serves as the state Secretary. He was elected to all of those positions. That means almost 60,000 law enforcement officers trust Lt. Salcido! The article failed to mention that. I wonder why.

I truly believe that Lt. Salcido has suffered because of his union activity. While president of the DSA, he had to stand up to the Sheriff on many occasions, something that I’ve been told she does not forget. He demonstrated true leadership as President of the DSA and continues to shine at the state level. He has willingly provided help and advice to many of the union presidents in the area. I have known him for almost thirty years, and he is one of the most honorable men in public service.

And since I don’t want to be accused of not giving the full story, I’ll let you know that Lt. Salcido has been endorsed for Sheriff by the SJPOA.

Stay safe.

  1. When I was on the Mayor's Public Health and Safety Transition Committee I met, and had the honor and privilege of working with Jose Salcido. I found Jose to be one of the most integrity ridden, kind, fair, professional, and knowledgeable people I have ever met. Believe me that is saying a lot!

I find it rather sickening that this Charvez character would waste taxpayers time and money running for such an important office when he could care less about wining. To try and split the vote, and to cast false dispersions on Jose’s run for office just to hurt Jose over a personal vendetta is one of the most irresponsible, self centered, and ignorant things I’ve heard in a very long time.

Secondly, the fact that the Metro/SJI would write such an irresponsible gossip filled story about Jose, knowing full well that the court found no wrong doing on his part doesn’t surprise me one bit. Like the majority of articles and stories run by the Metro on SJI, it is a story lacking in facts, and credibility. I found it very amusing, and hypocritical that the Editor of SJI/Metro asked readers who complained about the article and the writer of this bias column to show this new intern at the Metro some “respect!” I guess there is no double standard of treatment here is there folks?

If Jose decides to run, he has my vote, my support, and my very best wishes from start to finish. We need someone like him to hold higher offices if we stand any chance for vitally needed change for the better~

  2. Cheap shot would be a good name for the Metro and their San Jose Inside blog. Pulcrano the king of porn must have been beaten up a lot as a kid because he sure likes using his daddy’s millions on his rag to beat up on other people. He seems to take a lot of pleasure in hurting innocent people, so I ignore his crappy blog and use his free porn rag to line my cat’s litter box.

And this idiot Charvez is a great example of why people think politicians and law enforcement is corrupt. The guy is a joke and should be fired from his job. He gives everyone a bad name. I’ll vote for this Jose guy just to piss off Charvez, and Metro. Jose must be a decent guy if the king of porn is attacking him. You got my vote Jose.

  3. Thank you for the column on Jose Bobby. Jose has my vote and support if he decides to run. I met Jose on several occasions and think he is a true professional and an honest individual. Politics is a dirty business and that is why I’m glad I’m out of it.

  4. Blame Sheriff for having her lap dog attack Lt. Salcido. The Metro is run by her friend . She has delibratley not promoted him to keep him from out shining her. Look at her command staff she has done nothing to promote people of color or women and everyone gives her a pass. She is so hard up credibiltiy for her staff she had to give Mr.Zink a hero award for twisting his ankle. The sad thing is that he problably has convinced himself he deserves it. Yet she has a Lt. that has accpmplished so much on his own and she does nothing to honor him. Maybe if he was to donate to her election he might get promoted? Just a thought

  5. It's too bad that Salcido is no longer running for sheriff. It would have been great to have a real person running the show. The current sheriff has been in power way too long and has no idea of what the community really needs. Her command staff is made up of brainless fools, and they all lack integrity. They get promoted to high positions right before retirement. How convenient! The ones who stay around are only good for kissing her butt. And rather than doing real work, they spend countless hours in brainstorm sessions creating ways to cover up their unethical practices. Look at the results of the DeAnza rape case. They dropped the ball on that one! It's too bad that the public can't see how their tax dollars are really spent and wasted!

  6. Take a look at the Sheriff's donations. Available on line. Seems like the only people donating are members of her own department. Why if you look closely you can see a pattern. The promotional list comes from the donation list. It's public information. I thought that stuff went out after the stars and bars flag left the south.
