  1. Could someone give us some insight into the compensation for City Hall administrators. We saw recently that Barbara Attard got a sweetheart deal for a second house. How many others got such a deal?

What type of pensions and vacations do they get?

Lots of people are beating up on cops and firefighters. How about a little info on the top level people who get big salaries but don't risk their lives?

  2. Did anybody else notice local labor took a hit at City Council this week thanks to a defection in the ranks? Looks like Councilmember Herrera is having a hard time figuring out who butters her bread.

    A brief timeline of events:

Herrera achieved a rare double by collecting endorsements from SBLC and COC in last year's tight race with Pat Waite to replace outgoing VM Cortese.

In June of this year, she voted with labor to rebid a library project because of a beef they have with Barry Swenson.

Now, after a month's vacation, she returns and leads the way to reverse that decision and award the bid to Swenson.

Has labor lost their touch since Phaedra left town? Or have they been trending downward since getting throttled in the '06 elections?

  3. Deshawn Campbell senteced to life in prison today (seven years too late), in my opinion, forever is not long enough.

I hope this brings some closure to the family who have endured nothing but roadblocks. My prayers are with them.

  4. I would like to see an "offical" request to the Mercury News requesting a listing their employees compensation. They seem to have no issue reporting city employees compensation. I beleive it is only fair.

  5. I see Campbell got life without parole and his lawyer is still claiming he is innocent. Re-victimization is something I just can't phantom. The Fontana family lost a son and now their long awaited fight for justice, life without parole, is for not. Now they will have to wait many more years, or decades, as taxpayers foot the bill of a convicted murderer to ensure his Civil Rights.

I don’t think anyone truly understands that victims serve time right along with these criminals/perpetrators, only they don’t get out for good behavior nor do they ever get off with time served the way offenders do. You can’t replace a life, or repair the damage done to a child who survived a molestation, or abuse, nor does a rape victim ever fully recover from the violation they experience. I don't know whether to scream or cry at the injustice of it all~

  6. I like this open thread idea. Good job. Hope you keep it around.

I agree with Kathleen and others on here, our Council and the judicial system sucks. I want a job like Attard where someone will give me a 200K loan and then forgive it when I default on it, after being FIRED. Sweet deal. Where do I sign up?

Gotta say I like the way Bobby Lopez writes. I've met him. He is a great guy. You cops are really lucky to have someone like him to fight for you especially with the boneheads we have on our City Council. Being a union rep is a tough job. You take a lot of heat and you work a lot of hours. People don't appreciate guys like him that put their balls on the line for them. Wish I had a rep like that. Count your blessings guys because you are a lucky bunch of SOBs!

  8. C.S.,
I agree. Bobby Lopez is an incredible man, leader, friend, and POA President. He has a loving heart and fights for his Police Officers much like a lioness fights for her cubs. Other leaders could learn a lot from him about loyalty and commitment to friends and associates. He has done a lot for the POA. They ARE lucky to have him on their side. ;-)

I can't believe the City forgave a loan for Attard for over #300K! That would hire like FOUR badly needed Police Officers! I just don't get it. How on earth can they justify that after the over $165K she was earning as our Police Officer bashing IPA? Unbelievable!
