About Time

EDITOR'S NOTE:

Regular readers of this blog will remember Monday’s post from SJPOA President Bobby Lopez defending Lieutenant Jose Salcido from attacks on his character as he ponders a campaign for Santa Clara County Sheriff. Mr. Lopez pointed to Lt. Salcido’s lifetime of work keeping our streets and neighborhoods safe and his strong ties to the community as reasons why he deserved a promotion.

Well, it looks like Mayor Reed was paying attention... But seriously, we'll repeat what Mr. Lopez wrote earlier: Lt. Salcido is a good man and deserves recognition for his years of public service. Let’s hope the Mayor and others listen to him.

UPDATE:

The Mayor's office finally got around to posting the official press release on the web. You can read it here for yourself. (Click on the arrow in the upper right corner to go to full-screen mode.)

  1. Jose Salcido is a good guy, but how can the Mayor's office expand it's budget and ask everyone else to cut theirs?

  2. Good point about the mayors budget. I guess instead of hiring 1 of the 25 cops he promised he hired an advisor.

  3. He should have continued to run for Sheriff that way we would have some fresh thinking at the county level. The amount of money that has gone into having a departemnt of correction and a Sheriff's department! Wow the duplecation of effort is amazing. She needs to retire and let someone with new ideas come in and shake things up. Maybe the De Anza rape case would have been solve and her wotrhless command (good old boys) would have to do something.Maybe the patrol shifts would go back to 10hrs and save some future cyclist.

  4. When you have kids that have been promoted to a leadership role the respect of knowledgeable officers in gone. It appears that anyone worth having around the SJPD is retiring and if not has planned their exit strategy.
It takes the wind out of a veteran Officers sail when you see a fleet of stylish unmarked cars rolling around the city, to Santana Row and headed to homes in the Central Valley and Gilroy. With car seats I might add.
The attitude around there seems to be get promoted so you can participate in the criminal abuse of city funds and resources.

  5. First off, I don't personally know Lt Salcido. But I do personally know how Sheriffs roll; and to call them law ENFORCEMENT officers would be a stretch. To call any LT ( PD or SO) a law enforcement officer is a stretch. To have a command staffer ( aka politician) from another agency advise a dyed in the wool politician about another agency's top cop (aka chief politician) and expect anything good but back stabbing politics is a stretch. Frankly I'm tired of all this stretching.
